SIM I Toastmasters Club Chapter Meeting No 21 was a very special one not because it was the last but not least meeting under the 2010/2011 EXCO but because it hosted 17 members from Hong Kong University Space Toastmasters Club. They were on their annual visit to Singapore NUS Toastmasters Club.

The Language Evaluator was Patricia Lim, ATM-B, AL-S and the words of the evening: Obsess(v), Obsessive(adj) and Obsession(noun)

It was also our first time to have our visitors organizing the Table Topic Session.  The Topics suggested by our friends from Hong Kong were challenging but easily conquered by both our members and the visitors alike. The Table Topics Masters were TM Karris Lai and TM Jenny Chan.

We also saw our visitor,  TM Billy Cheung presented his Project2 and Henry Woo evaluating TM Shirly Lau for her project 2 during this meeting.

Also, we congratulate TM Tan Wenling who was inducted as our new member by VP Membership Ong Chuan Aik, DTM during the Chapter Meeting:

Two P10′s lead by Tamil Chelvan & Lin Pan Pan who completed their CC manuals. Congratulations all around.

26 Nov 10. “Blast to the Past” was the theme for this Chapter Meeting.. Word of the evening: detrimental – adjective 1. causing detriment; damaging; harmful. Example of use. The inability to communicate with people of different background is detrimental to anyone success.  Martin Boon and Paul  Lee shared the title of  best table topic winner. The best speaker was Belinda Woo  And the best evaluator was again Kelvin Kok. Well done!

18 Nov 10. The Club organized a social gathering with a mini bowling competition at the Singapore Recreation Club Esplanade Bowl. Lily Lim and husband walked away as the champions for the evening. While the couple was bowling away, Micheal Ng, kept the rest entertained with the Gold investment opportunity…

12 Nov 10. With the theme “You are a Star”, everybody came alive being a star in their own right! Word of the evening: ra·tion·al (răsh’ə-nəl)

It is only rational if you want to improve your communication skills that you should attend SIM I chapter meetings more often. The table topic winner for the evening was Karen Tan. 22 Oct 10. Halloween came alive this evening. The word of the evening was Dubious. Paul Lee CTM being voted the best table topic speaker.

8 Oct 10. DTM Kan Kin Fung gave a talk on how to do our project 9 & 10 of the manual. His talk was insightful and many of the members attending sung high praises of it. 24 Sep 10. It’s the first time we had our Chapter Meeting held at Costa Sands, Pasir Ris. Not that we wanted to take an early year end break but just to ensure our meeting not to be disturbed by those blasting F1 cars! It was an evening of fun and sumptuous buffet! The Best Table Topic winners for the night were Dexter Toh and Kim Toh. Congratulation to the Tohs!

13 Aug 10. 2 new members Sun Xiaoxin and Prashant Kumar were formally inducted into our club. And not long after were we sent off by Prashant to the Land of the Roti Prata.

The Best Table Topic winner for the day was Christopher Foo. The Best Prepared Speech winner for the day was Prashant Kumar. The Best Evaluator winner for the day was Paul Lee.
The word of the day was gladden click on the word for the correct pronunciation. Example of use of the word in a sentence. Its gladden me to see so many people taking part in our humorous speech contest.

23 Jul 10. The theme of this chapter meeting is “Battle of the Sexes” and  Language Evaluator Jennie Ong gave a unique language making use of debits and credits being an accountant by training. Thank GOD, a clean bill of health was given.
The Best Table Topic winner for the day were Oon Tik Lee.
The Best Evaluator winner for the day was Kelvin Kok.
The word of the day was temperate click on the word for the correct pronunciation. Example of use of the word in a sentence. We should learn to be temperate in our eating and drinking.

9 Jul 10. World Cup came to SIM I and to kick it off our new club President Benjamin Lim gave his maiden address at the first chapter meeting of his term
Special guest DTM William Lim whom presented the Art of Evaluation and shared tips of how to give effective evaluations.

The word of the day was obtuse click on the word for correct pronunciation and meaning.
Example of use of the word in a sentence. Often the absolute meanings are hidden behind obtuse lyrics and intricate symbolism.

10 Apr 09. This event is a memorable milestone for SIM I Toastmasters Club as we celebrate our Silver Jubilee, our 25th Anniversary titled “Masquerade Ball”.

For the past 2 weeks, we have been receiving many well –wishes and encouragements from members and guests.

On behalf of the Masquerade Ball Committee, we would to express our heartfelt appreciation to your emails and smses. Your words have given us a great “pat” on our shoulders.

For members and guests who were present, we are indeed honored to have you as one of the 230 over attendees. You have witnessed an extraordinary event in 2009 where there were many excellent and electrifying performances.

One of the highlights of the night’s program is when we showcased the montage (a series of photos) from 1984 to 2009. From the pictures, we can see the transformation of SIM I Toastmasters Club from a small club in 1984 to now, a leading Toastmasters club in Singapore.

In a nutshell, we are proud to be members of SIM I Toastmasters Club.

26 Dec 08. We have the Finals of the debate in the first half of the Chapter meeting. Fighting Falcon and Simply Us were locked in a closely fought debate. By judges’ decision, Simply Us won the Finals of the debate. On top of that, Oon Tik Lee, ATM-B, CL from “Simply Us” was the best speaker (debater) for the debate once again.

By members’ vote, TM Ng Yee Hoon was the best table topics speaker for the debate.

In the second half of the meeting, TM Rayson Lim and TM Shannon Goh organised the Christmas Celebration with fun games, singing Christmas Carols and Christmas gift exchange. To round up the meeting, we had sparkling drinks to toast for Christmas and the New Year 2009.

12 Dec 08. We welcome one new members, Samson Chen. He is inducted at the chapter meeting conducted by our VPM Benjamin Lim. Let us warmly welcome him to join our club. Towards better speaking.

We also conducted our debate in this Chapter meeting with for 4 teams namely,

Fighting Falcon and Simply Us emerged as the winners against their respective opponents, They will battle out in the Finals on the 26 December 2008.

By members’ vote, TM Tamichelvan was the best table topics speaker in the first session of the debate while Oon Tik Lee, ATM-B, CL was the best table topics speaker in the second session.

By judges’ decision, Oon Tik Lee, ATM-B, CL from “Simply Us” was the best speaker (debater) for the debate.

29 Nov 08. Today is a milestone for SIM I Toastmasters Club. We are the Champions for the 1st SIM IG Appreciation Bowling Tournament 2008 held at Superbowl Mount Faber in Safra Mount Faber for the Exco members of the 12 Interest Groups of SIM. Our club was represented by the following Exco members,

As the inaugural Champion, we also won a huge and beautiful Challenge trophy for the club. Now, we have the Challenge trophy to defend in 2009.

To add to the icing on the cake, we also won $600 cash which would be credited to our club funds. Besides being the team Champion, Benjamin Lim was the individual best bowler.

22 Nov 08. As Champion of Division B Evaluation Speech Contest held last month (11 October). Our member, Karen Tan, CL who is also the Immediate Past President, represented Division B in the District 80 Semi–Annual Convention Evaluation Speech Contest held at YWCA Fort Canning Lodge on the 22 November. Though not placed, We would like to thank her for her participation as well as lifting our banners high in Division B as well as in the District Level.

4 Oct 08. Club Social Event – Fun Bowling Orchid Country Club.  We had an enjoyable time bowling as well as getting to know each other better during the Fun bowling event. CC Kam special thanks to SIM1 toastmasters club giving him the opportunity and venue to improve his public speaking, otherwise he could not manage to make the award acceptance speech successfully in front of 700 distinguished guests which include 3 ministers and CEOs of listed companies during the award gala.

12 Jan 08. NUSS Guild House has been voted to be our resident Chapter Meeting Venue. If there is a better and viable alternate venue, we will definitely consider. Meritus Mandarin conference rooms are undergoing a new face lift and refurbishment.

2nd Nov 07. This evening is our club 2nd networking and socializing night. In the Pools tournament. Freeman Yue is the champion and Patricia Lim is the runner-up. Around 20 plus people turned up for the event.

27th August 07. Congratulation to Chong Thian Choy, ATM-B and Patricia Lim, ATM-B, AL for being the champion of the Humorous Speech and Evaluation contest respectively. Gary Tan, CL and Michael Ng, ATM-B,CL are the 1st Runner-Up and 2nd Runner-Up respectively of the Evaluation contest and Anthony Ng, ACS is the 1st Runner-Up of the humor contest. 25th May 07. We have our AGM (Annual General Meeting) at SIM House. At the meeting, a new EXCO for 2007/08 term was elected. We also have our “Under Project 7” contest and a great thanks to all who are involved in making the event a success  especially the contestants.

17th May 07. We welcome TM Grace Bong to our club and we wish her all the best to be a better speaker.

14th May 07. SIM I Toastmaster Club is one of the winners of the Best Club Award in District 80 for 2006 – 2007. DTM Kelvin Ong will receive the award on behalf of our club at the District 80 Annual Convention in Hong Kong this weekend 18-21 May 2007. Kudos to all the members for making our club a success.

6th January 07. Our President CTM Michelle received the SMEDLEY AWARD 2006 from District 80 Governor DTM Poh Kim Siong at the Club Officers Training at NTU Alumni. Congratulation to all members who made the mark to achieve the award.

December 22nd. We had light refreshments  at Chatterbox after our Christmas Celebration chapter meeting at 1130pm, Friday. As the clock ticked midnight, it is 23rd, and we celebrate someone birthday. Who is this person?

November 25th. Anthony Ng has just completed the 10th project from two advanced manuals at last night meeting and is eligible for ACS (Advanced Communicator Silver).

November 10th. A warm welcome to Jackson Ong, our new member for this month. We wish him all the best to be a better communicator.

November 3th. About 20 people turned out at The Legend, Fort Canning Club for our club networking and relaxation. We had 16 participants for our very first POOL knock out tournament. ATM-S, AL Ong Chuan Aik emerged the Champion of the tournament.

October 27th. Chin Cheow Liang finished C&L Project and was awarded CC (Competent Communicator. Congratulation.
